At a point in life, some of women question why our hair
simply won't grow. Next, we try to figure out how to make it grow faster. This frequently
happens after a drastic chop. But no lotion or potion can do the trick if your
body is out of balance.
According to a recent research, one in five women over the
age of 25 suffer from hair loss or hair thinning, due to crash dieting, stress,
styling mistakes & oral contraceptives. Without the right nutrition, our
body can’t give our hair the chance it needs to grow, which is where daily diet
comes in.
“Nutrition plays a key role in the health of skin, hair &
nails,” explains Viviscal Nutritionist Juliette Kelow. “A poor intake of
vitamins & minerals can quickly affect the condition of the hair so a
well-rounded, balanced diet is vital for the hair, just as much as the rest of
the body.”
“Iron is particularly important”, adds Christine Bailey ,
Nutritionist on behalf of The Harley Medical Group. It’s a necessary mineral
that your hair cells need to ensure oxygen & nutrients are getting
transported to your hair follicles. “Eating red meat & certain vegetables
will swell your iron level, while eating vitamin C rich foods at the same time
will help absorption”, says Bailey.
“Hair is also made of protein, so to support the growth of
healthy hair it is important to eat enough protein-rich foods”, adds
Trichologist, Anabel Kingsley .
“Individual requirements vary, but aiming to eat 0.8 grams of protein per
kilogram of body weight is standard. Try to eat this in the earlier parts of
the day.” You should also add to your B vitamins, mostly biotin, which are
responsible for strengthening your hair.
Include these foods to your daily diet & reap all the
benefits of longer, stronger hair.
1. SALMON
Omega 3 fatty acids are necessary for healthy, strong hair,
but our body doesn’t produce them, so get them from your diet. Salmon is packed
with the stuff, which is why you should have 2 to 3 servings a week. Worried
you aren’t getting enough? Take a good quality supplement after seeing a
nutritionist.
2. EGGS
Protein is the building block of hair & eggs are one of
the most protein-rich foods. They are also filled with zinc, which promotes
cell reproduction, growth & repair.
3. LEAN MEAT
Not only will a serving of red meat, like beef, give you a
healthy dose of protein, it’ll also boost your Vitamin B, which is crucial for
hair strength.
