Directorate of Foundation Programmes runs one academic session (of 2 semesters) Foundation (Pre-Degree) Programme aimed at preparing candidates who could not gain admission into the University through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), but possess the minimum entry requirements for admission into 100 level in their respective courses.
The available degree options currently offered through the programme and with the entry requirements are as stated below.
1. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN AGRICULTURE
The Foundation Programme in Agriculture prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
Agricultural Science and Extension
Animal Science
Crop Science
Soil Science
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credits in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Agric Science or Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
2. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN ARTS
The Foundation Programme in Arts prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
English
French
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Literature-in-English and two (2) other subjects.
3. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES
The Foundation Programme in Basic Medical Sciences prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
Anatomy
Medical Laboratory Science
Nursing
Physiology
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
4. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN EDUCATION
The Foundation Programme in Education prepares candidates for entry into the following departments with degree options available indicated.
A. EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION AND MANAGEMENT
The degree options available are:
B.A. (Ed) English
B.A. (Ed) French
B.A. (Ed) Geography and Environmental Management
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The same as required for B.A English, B.A French and B.Sc Geography and Environmental Management
B. PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION
Candidates seeking admission into the Department of Physical and Health Education must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agric. Science, Health Science, Physical and Health Education.
C. VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
The Foundation Programme in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education is in Business Education with the following degree options:
B.Sc (Ed) Accounting
B.Sc (Ed) Agriculture
B.Sc (Ed) Home Economics
B.Sc (Ed) Secretarial Studies
B.T (Ed) Technical Education
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
(a) Accounting Education
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/ TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and two (2) other subjects.
(b) Agricultural Science
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Agric. Science or Biology and two (2) other science subjects.
(c) Home Economics
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/ TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology and two (2) other science subjects.
(d) Secretarial Studies
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/ TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and two (2) other subjects
(e) Technical Education
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/ TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, plus any two of the following subjects, Fine Art, Biology, Agricultural Science, applied Electricity, Basic Electronics, Woodwork, Building Construction, Block laying and Concreting, Metal Works, Automobile and Technical Drawing.
Teacher’s Grade II Certificate with Credit/ Merit passes in at least five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and General or Basic Science plus two of the above named subjects.
City and Guilds Certificate at intermediate level with passes at first written and credit at second written in practical Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Concrete practice, Carpentry and Joinery, Furniture Craft, Building Construction etc. plus federal Craft Certificate with at least a “C” grade in five subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics and Basic Science.
National Technical Certificate (NTC) with credit passes in five (5) subjects in not more than two (2) sittings which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
D. SCIENCE EDUCATION
The Foundation Programme in Science Education prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
B.Sc (Ed) Biology
B.Sc (Ed) Chemistry
B.Sc (Ed) Mathematics
B.Sc (Ed) Physics
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB/TC II or its equivalent certificate recognized by the Senate of Ambrose Alli University at not more than two (2) sittings. Requirements vary with subject area as shown below.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Biology Education: Candidates must posses credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Biology in addition to two other subjects
Chemistry Education: Candidates must posses credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry in addition to two other subjects
Mathematics Education: Candidates must posses credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any other science subject in addition to two other subjects
Physics Education: Candidates must possess credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Physics in addition to two other subjects.
5. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
The Foundation Programme in Engineering and Technology prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
Civil Engineering
Electrical/Electronics Engineering
Materials and Production Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level / NECO/NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other subject.
6. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
The Foundation Programme in Environmental studies prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
Building
Fine and Applied Arts
Geography and Environmental Management
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Building: Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/ WASC/GCE O’ Level, /NECO,/NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two (2) subjects from Geography, Economics, Arts, Technical Drawings, Biology and Agric Science.
Fine and Applied Arts: Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes including English Language and Mathematics in SSCE/ WASC/GCE O’ Level /NECO /NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings. A credit or pass in Fine and Applied Arts is an additional advantage. Candidates having TC11 with at least merit grade in Fine and Applied Arts may also apply.
Geography and Environmental Management: Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level/NECO/NABTEB at not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Geography and any other two (2) subjects.
7. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN LIFE SCIENCES
The Foundation Programme in life Sciences prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
Biochemistry
Botany
Microbiology
Zoology
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes including a credit in English Language and Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level/NECO/NABTEB provided that at least three (3) of the credits are in relevant science subjects. A credit pass in Physics may not be mandatory for the Departments of Botany and Zoology.
8. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME IN PHYSICAL SCIENCES
The Foundation programme in Physical Sciences prepares candidates for entry into any of the following degree options:
Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry
Computer Science
Mathematics/Industrial Mathematics /Statistics
Physics / Geophysics
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess at least, five (5) credit passes including a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings in SSCE/WASC/GCE O’Level/NECO/NABTEB provided that at least three (3) of the credits are in relevant science subjects. in relevant science subjects. A credit pass in Physics may not be mandatory for Statistics option in the Department of Mathematics.

PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES SHOULD NOTE THAT THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO REGISTER AND WRITE THE 2018 UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION (UTME) AND OBTAIN A MINIMUM SCORE OF 120 POINTS IN ADDITION TO PASSING THE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME FOR THEM TO PROCEED TO 100 LEVEL IN 2018/2019 ACADEMIC SESSION.
