Paul
Pogba has confirmed his status as
the new icon of Man. United, with the £89m midfielder establishing himself as
the club’s top shirt seller.
Latest figures reveal more shirts were sold with Pogba’s
name & number on them than any other Premier League player.
According to sales recorded by retailer Sports Direct, 9
United players make up the leading 30 most popular shirts.
From figures collated since May 1, United’s incredible
commercial appeal is highlighted.
Lukaku has experienced a spike in sales following his move
to Old Trafford & remarkable start to the season.
The Belgian follows in the footsteps of earlier players who’ve
seen their popularity climb since moving to United.
Memphis Depay became the 3rd highest shirt seller behind
Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo following his move from PSV Eindhoven in
2015.
In figures released at the time by Kitbag, Bastian Schweinsteiger
rose from 31st to 4th after swapping Bayern Munich for United.
But Pogba’s status as the club’s new commercial king will be
most pleasing for United’s hierarchy.
When executive vice chairman Ed
Woodward chose to make him the most expensive player
in the world last summer, he believed the Frenchman would become an Old
Trafford icon, capable of matching Wayne Rooney ’s
commercial appeal.
