According to the chief investigator Gideon Kibunja, one of
the suspects was a pupil at the school who had been suspended last week for
fighting & who vowed to take revenge.
The pupil, allegedly from the Toposa tribe of South Sudan,
was arrested while purportedly attempting to flee into the Kakuma refugee camp
following the early morning shooting, which injured twenty people.
He added that, during the school rampage, gunmen had looked
for the head teacher & the other student involved in the affray but could
not find them & shot fellow pupils instead. Turkana County commissioner Seif Matata
was quoted by the Daily Nation as saying: "The preliminary information we
have is that this attack was carried out by a student of the school in the
company of other unknown people.
"There was a student who comes from South Sudan &
he was suspended from school because of indiscipline."
The suspect was said to have issued threats to his teachers &
students after he was kicked out of school.
“He was heard telling fellow students that he was going to
burn the school or he will come back & avenge because of the
suspension," the commissioner said.
What we are told is that early this morning he came with
about 3 other people & killed the watchman, went to the boys' dormitory
where they targeted particular students whom they thought were behind his
suspension.
