Annual Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF)
organizers have announced that 2017's showcase will take place in Lagos between
Oct. 29 & Nov. 4, 2017.
This was made known at a press launch an announcement
cocktail party at the British Council in
Ikoyi on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The annual festival is set for its 7th-year run as organizers
promise a vibrant experience that will celebrate the magic of African cinema.
As its tradition, a collection of movies will be screened
during the festival's seven-day run as it hosts competitions in a number of
categories including short films, feature films, documentaries, animated films,
& short films made by film students.
The opening film of the festival is I Am Not a Witch,
directed by 35-year-old Zambian-born,
Cardiff-raised Rungano
Nyoni .
Nyoni's first feature movie tackles the systematic
constraints placed on women in Zambia, & her own experiences with sexism in
the movie industry.
2017's film line-up includes a host of entries from
Francophone filmmakers as a fulfillment of organizers’ wish last year to honor
France & La Francophonie in a long-term vision of artistic collaborations &
partnerships.
Industry professionals & others enthusiastic to attend
the festival at the end of October have been asked to register on AFRIFF's
official website.
The first edition of the film festival was held in Port
Harcourt 2010, while the 2013 & 2014 editions took place in Calabar.
Lagos has hosted it 3 times, first in 2011 & then the
last 2 editions in 2015 & 2016.
