The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission has permitted
the electricity distribution companies to disconnect customers who refused to
be metered.
He said that the meters were being installed to minimize
electricity theft & ensure that electricity consumed was paid for.
The Managing Director, who was represented by Mr Verr
Jirbo , the Executive Director, for
the most part warned customers in the 4 states covered by the JEDC - Plateau,
Benue, Gombe & Bauchi - against by-passing meters.
"I want to strongly warn customers against stealing
electricity & by-passing meters installed by us. Anyone caught will face
the full wrath of the law," he said.
The JEDC Manager said that the company had massively
procured prepaid meters & had ordered for even more in its efforts to get
rid of the regime of estimated billing.
Gidado said that JEDC meters had been tested, certified &
certificated by the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency, cautioning
that the outfit would not entertain any attempt to undermine effort toward
quality service.
